Sunshine
Kesey
"The 'Sunstones' that I make are evidence of my infatuation with
full-spectrum color and its prismatic origins in light. The thick
lens of glass perfectly mimics water, and the soft exterior shape
seems to have the surface tension of a water droplet. These effects,
mixed with sprays of brilliant color and 3-D objects in suspension,
give the ambient light a place to pool and scatter. Like a bat's
sonar, the light enters the space and informs me of the liquid
density and the perimeter of that piece of space. My enjoyment of
glass is that simple; I luxuriate in the miraculous optics of this
sensuous medium. In the future, I hope to explore these qualities of
glass in large, solid, outdoor sculptures, to be seen in the natural
light from various distances."
